Today most people and even authorized sources like Wikipedia state that Bugatti Veyron is the fastest and most powerful car in the world. Most are wrong - The SSC Ultimate Aero features a top speed of 260 MPH, with an engine featuring 1046 BHP @ 6950 RPM, if you know what that means. I don’t.

BHP means Brake Horsepower. It s a measurement of how much horsepower the engine generates. Due to parasitic loss through the drivetrain, less of that power will reach the wheels.

Hmm, if i recall correctly, the Veyron is the worlds fastest PRODUCTION car, meaning it is for sale and meets regulations so that it can legally be driven on public roads. Oh yeah, it also runs on pump gas. They even had to crash test one to prove that it was safe enought to drive on the roads.

Actually, if you look at this page here, it lists the top speed as estimated 273… from 1180bhp. (Maybe the 1046 figure is measured at the wheels?)

Ok… Lets clear some things up people.
First, this car hasn’t been tested. And although it claims 260mph, it also claims 2.9 seconds 0-60, so thats some crazy gearing.
the Bugatti is limited at 253 (NOT 263) because of tire technology.
Bugatti is still king until the Aero gets proper 3rd party testing.
another cool fact about the Bugatti is that if it gave the Mclaren f1 a 120mph headstart, it would still beat it to 200mph

first off the veyron has not had its offical top speed test with guiness yet so it is currently not the top speed production car unofficially yes but officially no the ccr still holds the title until there is an offical release about it…you guys are sittin here babbling about how u wont believe the numbers of this car cuz its coming from the manufactor well ur believing whatever VW tells u about the veyron…who here has actually seen it got 251 no one has…

Some fun facts: I just read the article on who’s the fastest production car from “Car & Driver” and “Race Tracks” January 06 issue. The editor in chief of C&D CebareCzereses (spellcheck) actually drove the Veyron past 241mph which is faster than the fastest McLarenF1’s speed 231 (production level car). However, the article also stated that the Koeniggseggs went 251mph but did NOT state who drove or how it was achieved. Murray also praised the Veyron as the current fastest mass produced car in C&D. Also, the S-7 has (on paper) 2.7 0-60 but no ones mention it here? But, it has NEVER been tested officially unless anyone found any reliable source to prove? Out\^^/

Joe… ya it has had its official top speed. the veyron is so fast they have to have it tested at nasa. adelin same to you… your a fuckin ideot. you said stupid screaming lambo… who owens lamborghini no no no no no scrach that who is the best car manufacter… thats right audi which happens to owne laborghini so with laborghini’s power and audi’s quality and specs that makes laborghini even better than any exotic car company. HELLO 2.9 sec is flying and secound off it took them a long time before they actualy got the bugatti to do 2.5. it was estimated 3.0 until they found someone with the skill to hadle a car like that i meen u try driving a beast like the bugatti. 2.9 sec for the ultimate is one of there first runs. after the test at nasa they should have its 0-60 time or at least a better time. give them some time to get use to 1100 plus horsepower.
and in my earlier comment its not just a quad turbo charged w16 engine for the bugatti. its a 8.0L 64valve quadturbocharged w16 engine….DAMN!!!! The ultimate is still going to win though because it has everthing it needs to win… example.

ok so it seems like the debate is between the veyron, aero, f1 and ccx…gimme one of the latter two cause I know they can actually take a corner. Top speed is a bullshit statistic and few people who ever own any of these cars will be going much faster than 200mph.
About Gordon Murray, I did read a short paragraph where he did praise certain aspects of the veyron…then I kept reading the 3 pages that criticized pretty much everything about it including the fact that if they gave a maclaren ~100 more hp it would do 255mph. Gordon is a smart guy who has engineered many championship cars including formula one and the aforementioned maclaren f1, among others. So if he says so, I believe him.
Concerning the concept that awd is better than rear, then explain to me why f1 cars, lemans cars, and any other race cars (except rally) are rwd??? Hmm…maybe because it’s better. AWD is great if you suck at driving, but it adds considerable weight for a very small if any gain of performance. I’m a huge audi fan but I’m not so impressed with the veyron. They spent so much time and money trying to make a car that is way to heavy and has a fundamentally flawed shape (beautiful as it is) go fast. If they had started with performance in mind, rather than looks, they would have ended up with a car that could actually compete with an f1 or ccx in a race, instead of just going fast in a straight line. And yes, i’ve read the reviews…yes the veyron handles surprisingly well, but that doesn’t mean it can take a set of esses like a REAL sports car.
One last thing…it takes about 5 miles to get the veyron to top speed, and once you’re there you’d better soak it in cause the clock is ticking. after 16min the gas tank will be empty, and I bet it’s got a pretty big tank too. the aero on the other hand, while i’m sure it goes through gas pretty fast at top speed, during normal driving it gets better mileage than a lot of lesser sports cars…15mpg city and 22mpg highway…that’s damn good for a twin turbo v8.
and lambo…c’mon man…koeingigsegg (sp?) vs. veyron….I think macintosh apples are better than navel oranges….most of what you said above is true but you lost me there man.

wait what were we talking about…oh yeah…I think the aero will beat the veyron’s current top speed, but i wouldn’t be surprised if audi is holding out and the veyron will go faster. But at the end of the day simple physics would have to say that the aero, with 180 more hp and 1400 less lbs should win. for those wondering that’s a power:weight ratio of 0.241 (veyron) vs. 0.430…nearly double!!!
PS. 1001 hp is totally gay, just enough to say it’s got “over 1000 horses” Everything about the veyron is a big marketing ploy…apparently winning lemans year after year isn’t impressive??? why not brag about something real audi, you’re better than this.

Ultimate Aero is now named Ultimate Aero TT.
The engine in the base Aero model is same as last year, but Ultimate Aero’s engine now 387.2 cu.in., rated at 1180 bhp @ 6950 rpm and 961 lb./ft. torque @ 6150 rpm, supercharger is replaced by twin turbocharger with cab adjustable boost pressure. The car is designed to use 92 octane.
The 6-speed transmission is readjusted to increase car’s top speed to 273.75mph (437 km/h) @ 7200 rpm, although actual run to such extremes have yet to be made.
Wheels on base model is 18-inch front and 19-inch rear, while Ultimate Aero TT has wheels an inch bigger on both sides.
Coefficient of drag are 0.371 and 0.357 for base and ultimate models respectively .
2007 models are heavier, with base model at 2850 lbs, and Ultimate version at 2750 lbs. Unlike previous year, both models have navigation system, 10-speaker audio/CD/DVD system, video/DVD screen, back-up camera, air-conditioning and trunk space as standard equipment.
The first production 2007 Ultimate Aero TT car was sold in ebay Motors for US $431,100.00. Later cars are expected to cost US $585,000[1]. Only 24 Ultimate Aero TT are to be produced between 2006-2007.
The Ultimate Aero TT will make its international debut on the International Show Circuit starting in November 2006, culminating with the world record top-speed competition held in Wolfsburg, Germany in May 2007.

I dont know much about cars, but I do know real info about the bugatti due to actually have being ridden in one at wolksvagen by an egineer and while i was in the car it took an entire 5 miles to do it top speed(i am not sure if that is the true top speed) of 251mph which is not that great for a supercar

Laborghini is faster….. now before you start bitchin let me explane. ya ferrari has their f1 car and it is one of the best if not the best f1 car but f1 cars aren’t street legal which everyone wishes they were. when i mean faster i mean production. so put the fastest street legal ferrari vs the fastest lambo. lamborghini lp640= 3.3 sec 0-60, 211mph, and 4wd.
now ferrari enzo=3.6 sec, 225mph, and rwd. there is two new ferraris the 599gtb and the 599 gtb f1 now thats not the full name but good enough. the 599gtb is a little alower than the enzo but the 599gtb f1 i think… i’m not shure.
now if your friend is on the list for the enzo thats great but its a lot easier to buy a lp640. if your friend can handle fuckin fast ass car’s like those go for it but if not start with somthing like the standard murcielago or a 599 gtb because i don’t wan’t your friend dying because of the things i’m saying. you seem pretty cool comment back.

Claims. All claims. The Veyron has a PROVEN top speed. See that word in all caps? PROVEN. That means that the car has physically gone 253 MPH. It is not just saying that it can, it HAS. This car will not be as fast as the Veyron. It simply will not. Not to mention the Veyron is stable at 253 because it is so well built. If they tried to push this car to the record I guarantee you it would be a disaster. (As in someone will die because the car will surely fall apart) Sure, they can claim all they want, but until the top speed is measured I don’t believe any of it. Not to mention this car is one of the most hideous looking things I have ever laid eyes on. The Veyron is one of the most beautiful cars that has ever been created in my opinion.

Until proven, Bugatti veyron rules. Lets see the number of vehicles sold by others, bugatti is commercially viable car that people can purchase and drive. if some of these cars are faster and better they should sell more than bugatti, no? let the people decide, oh wait.. i think they already have :0)

The actual top speed on the first pass on Highway 221 was 257.11 mph, but the return top speed of 254.55 brought down the average slightly. All of those numbers beat the current record-holder, the Koenigsegg CCR, which had an average top speed of 242 mph, and the Bugatti Veyron, which reportedly reached 253 mph in an unofficial run.

Confident of the 1183 hp vehicle’s abilities, SSC set out to validate their top speed claim in accordance with the strict guidelines set by Guinness World Records. Among other requirements, in order to meet Guinness’ approval, a vehicle testing for the top speed record must drive down the course, turn around, and make a second pass in the opposite direction within one hour. The vehicle’s official “top speed” is calculated by averaging the top speeds of each pass in order to negate any favorable road or weather conditions. Today, on a temporarily-closed 2 lane stretch of public highway in Washington State, the Ultimate Aero posted a top speed of 257.41 mph (414.31 kph) on its first pass and 254.88 mph (410.24 kph) on its return pass, yielding a new top speed record: a staggering 256.15 mph (411.76 kph). The data, collected by Dewetron’s world-renowned GPS tracking system, will be verified by Guinness before the Ultimate Aero is officially crowned the “World’s Fastest Production Car.” This breaks the current official record held by the Koenigsegg CCR at 242 mph by 11.83 mph and the Bugatti Veyron’s unofficial speed of 253 mph by 3.11 mph.

Shelby SuperCars’ (SSC) Ultimate Aero was officially named the Fastest Production Car today by the Guinness Book of World Records. It’s the first American-made car to hold the title since the Ford GT40 in 1967.
The 71-year-old driver of the Ultimate Aero, Chuck Bigelow, reached an average top speed of 256.19 miles per hour on two passes–one in each direction–on a two-lane road in rural Washington state. It broke the current official record held by the Koenigsegg CCR by 15.09 miles per hour, and the Bugatti Veyron’s unofficial speed by 3.63 miles per hour. And although the Ultimate Aero broke the record, the SSC folks said the car has the potential to go even faster. Langley Full Scale Wind Tunnel testing calculates the vehicle to be aerodynamically stable at speeds of up to 273 miles per hour.

There is a diference between prototipes and standard cars that has got name and model and are made equal in any place and more than one, so many of the cars submited here are not to qualify as “normal sicunstances” oponents of rest of them, as one SAUBER MERCEDS that was the fastest standard car for a long time with 256.0119 MPH.

You’re all fucking morons. The Bugatti probably is the most soundly engineered of all the cars, but the Aero beat it for sheer top speed. I imagine the Aero doesn’t handle as soundly AT that speed, but then perhaps the Bugatti falls a bit slower when totally floored. However, none of you can afford one to drive anyway, so what are you arguing about? For “proof,” look in the Guiness book for fucks sakes. I don’t doubt that the Shelby Aero is technically faster than the Veyron, just as something else will probably come along that’s faster than the Shelby. But if you love cars, you know that it ain’t just about stats.
For all its weight, complexity and flaws, I still think the Bugatti is a marvel of modern engineering and design. Forty five hundred pounds, 16 cylinders, with four radiators, and self-adjusting aerodynamics, and then look inside at that luscious leather interior & instrumentation… what an amazing, contradictory beast this thing is, sort of like the bumblebee that technically shouldn’t be able to fly!
Whatever else you can say about it, the Veyron is a car that’s true to its namesake, the flamboyant designer Ettore Bugatti, who among other things, was famous for introducing the lightweight alloy wheel to racing, but especially for building cars that prized both style & engineering.
The Shelby’s a competent enough, maybe even faster machine, but it clearly has its roots in Formula One design, where “form follows function”. But my vote goes to the Veyron because it seems to speak to a different tradition. Or to paraphrase Buggatti, he once said that he believed a car had to look good in order to drive good. And unless you’re talking Indianapolis or NASCAR, isn’t that really what it’s about?

Although I would not agree with the statement “American Designers have no originality”. However, when it comes to Super Cars they may not have it all together as I agree the Aero looks like my friends Diablo,,,lol. You know the funny thing is even though I like a few things about the Aero and have heard about it for longer than the Veyron as some closet freaks have not. In all honesty the Aero has not been tested to it’s acclaimed top speeds by a legit 3rd party. As I have SEEN the Veyron hit 253mph on TOP GEAR! I’d ill pick a Veyron over an Aero due to it’s proven achievements. Which is the bottom line isn’t it!!!

so i looked at that brabus tkr the other day and i guess brabus has made a car from scratch would would make them a new car company. even thow it hasn’t been released yet to the public. i like brabus i really do but there starting to do what the ssc has done with the aero tt. the ssc claimed that it would do 273 before the test run and after it pulled 257. quite the difference right. well brabus is doing the same thing with their car. they claim 270. they haven’t even tested it yet and by the way it looks like they cut the whole front half of the saleen s7 off and remodled it and took the back half of the zonda c12 and welded them together. no originality. although i guess with all the cars out there its kind of hard for a new car not to look a little like one already made but their isn’t a single car in the world that looks any where close to the what the zonda looks like
the tkr still will most likely beat the veyron i highly dought that it’ll do 270 just like i said about the aero tt doing 273. in fact i believe in one of my earlyer coments i said that the aero tt will probly do around 260mph. i’ve never seen the car in real life and i was more right than the makers. the tkr will probly be around the same speed it i don’t think it will touch 270 let alone beat it. it only has 4 more horse power than the veyron and i haven’t seen the weight of the car but it would have to weight less than the aero tt wich is around 2700 lbs with 1183hp so i dought from what information brabus has given that it’ll top 270. it might beet the aero still but i hate when car companies SAY or try and predict what the car can do before they test it and morons out there like THAZ believe it. i personaly still prefer the veyron over the aero and so far the brabus tkr to.
the ssc is pethetic for even making it. its a run off of a lambo with what looks like a ccx’s tail lights. it’s taken them around nine years to make the damn thing. america just wanted to be in the record books with having the worlds fastest car. it just came out. i garente that those aero tt’s will have so many engine problems. the veyron looks better, is built better meaning duribility and reliability, and could perform better than the aero tt if it didn’t weigh so much. it weighs over 4100lbs compared to the over 2700lbs of the aero tt. other than than that those cars are very close in stats.

it turns out i was slightly off for once but i figured it out by myself. brabus the guys i was talking about specialize tuning mercedes benz cars like i said did not make this car. a company called barabus did. i didn’t really notice at first b/c look at the spelling…..brabus-barabus. hard to catch if your not paying attention. so i guess this is a new company b/c this is the first i’ve heard anything about them. anyway i can’t stand this company so far absolutly no originality. i think the barabus tkr is a peace of shit. still like brabus though they do noce work.
p.s. um if any of you guys can find the approx wieght of thebarabus tkrcuz i have yet to find it although i haven’t tried to hard to look for it. just send me the wed site where u found the wieght of it and i’ll take a look cuz i don’t trust any of u morons and how much u guys like to make shit up.

oh and another thing i found two bugatti’s one bought and tuned by pegaso and they managed to pull an extra two hundred horse power out of it don’t know how but they did. and the other is going into production and its called the veyron pur sang. its mad from alluminum and some cabon fiber and it loses two hundred lbs off its fat ass witch wieghs over 4100 lbs now a little over 3900 lbs. i think they should carbon fiber the whole thing and do that two hundred extra horse power upgrade to it and put that into production. that would eat the aero tt and the barabus tkr. but why they don’t do that is beond me. they don’t care to much for being the world record holder for top speed.
