Every player who wins the Stanley Cup is awarded posession of Lord Stanley’s Mug for a day of their life. Mario Lemieux famously swam with it in his pool, most players parade it through their hometown, and some take the nickname of Hockey’s Holy Grail a little too literally. Tomas Holmstrom, a right-winger for the champion Detroit Red Wings, used the trophy as baptismal font in the christening of his niece on friday.

I think this is a great idea and I bet tons of athletes will follow suit, and not just hockey players. Football players can get in on the act by having their babies circumcised with one of the many sharp edges on the Vince Lombardi Trophy, or for Hindhu sportsmen, in the traditional ear percing, they could use their championship ring as the jewelry. Or not.
