The Army’s New Toy

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

Atlas Devices have created a rope-climbing mechanism that can carry up to 250 pounds but also lift said weight at a rate of 10 feet per second. It runs on battery power and is under contract to be made for the Army and also rescue workers.

It looks extremely useful for these occupations and probably a lot of fun for those using them. It’ll make anyone use it feel like Batman for a brief moment until reality starts to settle back in.

Nissan Terranaut Car Concept - High Quality Pictures
Right, so the car that got most of the attention was the Nissan Pivo, which was introduced with revolutionary design. But the innovation in the Nissan Terranaut, which is still considered a concept, can make any car we’ve seen so far blush like a rotten tomato.

The Terranaut was conceived to serve as a mobile working environment for scientists, geologists, archaeologists or other adventurers who travel to the most challenging environments on the planet either for their work - or pleasure.

Built to house three operators – a pilot, co-pilot and lab technician/scientist – Terranaut has enough refrigerated storage space to house food, water and other provisions for stays of upwards of a week out in the field. Lightweight tents, sleeping bags built for extreme conditions and simple cooking facilities are carried in storage compartments in the doors.

That’s not all! we’ve got lots of pictures (more…)
